1.What is parole? Parole is an opportunity for an inmate to be released from prison with condition; and the ability to complete the rest of their sentence at home under a form of supervision from a parole officer.
2. When are you eligible for parole? Parole eligibility varies. Depends on the nature of the crime someone is convicted of. Usually after 1/6th, 1/5th, 1/4th, 1/3rd, or 1/2 of the total sentence length is served, depending on the nature and laws convicted under. ( I.e. aggravated, 3G)
3. Are you released on your parole eligibility date? In most cases when an inmate has an eligible parole date, it simply means they have served the minimum required amount of time and are able to be reviewed for parole. In addition, if the parole board grants parole, they often place stipulations on release; meaning, the inmate has to complete requests made by the parole board. However, if an inmate shows sufficient evidence and support for release the parole board does have the opportunity to release the inmate on their eligibility date after a vote.
4. Do I need a parole attorney? No, it is not a requirement to have representation for a parole hearing. However, some families choose to hire expensive attorneys for parole. You do not need a attorney to make parole and attorneys typically start at $2,000 and go up to $10,000.
5. What is a parole packet and do I need one to make parole? A parole packet is a compilation of documents to plea for the release of an incarcerated individual. No, it is not required to have a parole plea packet to make parole but it greatly enhances your chances of success.
6. What do I do to prepare for parole? Begin researching your options on attorneys if you can afford one or contact Texas Parole Solutions no less than 9 months to a year in advance. If they are coming up for first parole review, the board of pardons and paroles will get their file 6 months in advance of their eligibility date. If reviewed at least 1 time already, the board will have their file 4 months in advance of the eligibility date. So, time is of the essence to have reasonable time to prepare for a successful review.
